Sam
New posting as my old one on here is more than a year old at this point A little about me: I started playing D&D 10+ years ago at a games store in Bromley that is now unfortunately no longer there, so I started hosting/running D&D games out of my parent's home for my friends but found that I was, at the time, struggling to find enough people to run decent sessions. I now have a roster of approx. 10 or so people who I regularly play with, most of those I have taught how to play the game myself so as a result our table is very accommodating to all levels of experience. I'm 27 years old, Male and usually I am the DM for any sessions that I run from home (though I wouldn't be opposed to being a player every once in a while!) I generally run games in one of two formats; Oneshots, where the start, middle and end are wrapped up nicely in a single standalone session which requires no knowledge of any existing characters or locations. These are somewhat linear as I typically have a specific story to tell during these. These oneshots are a good opportunity to try out new classes or character builds, or just try out a few different character personalities without too much fear of being 'locked in' long term to a character you dont know if you like yet. Campaigns, which are more long term. These are story arcs told over several sessions and require a single character to be used consistently each time we meet. These are much more freeform and 'sandboxy' and broadly, the party can do whatever it is that they like to explore the world and there are usually many available plot strings that could be followed. I have run campaigns of lots of different lengths over the years, ranging from a few weeks all the way up to a multi-year storyline. My groups tend to lean towards narrative storytelling with some roleplay elements rather than dungeon crawls, with some players being confident enough to do voices and such, but the extent to which you may wish to take part is entirely up to you (many players find it easier to narrate their character's actions and dialogue in third person until they are comfortable with the group) we are perhaps less focussed on being combat heavy, though there will usually be 1-3 encounters per session that could lead in that direction depending on player actions. I personally like to reward player creativity and prioritise telling a good story over 'players vs DM' types of games. Shoot me an email if any of this sounds like it might be your thing, if we're broadly on the same page about expectations for any games, maybe we can meet up in a 'neutral space' such as a hobby shop or similar, or arrange a call on discord or whatsapp (I don't tend to invite people into my home when meeting them for the first time)
